FLIR Announces Nano-UAV w/ ATAK for First Responders

From AirMed & Rescue:

FLIR Systems Inc., a US-based sensor systems developer, has announced the launch of its new Black Hornet 3 nano-unmanned aerial vehicle.

FLIR says that the device is the smallest combat-proven UAS, and its previous iterations have been used by over 30 nations. The new generation of Black Hornet 3 gives the operation the ability to operate in GPS-denied environments. The device only weighs 32 grams and is able to fly around 2 km at speeds of over 21 kph. FLIR states that the technology could be utilised by first responders, as well as small combat units and SWAT teams. The UAS offers immediately available intelligence, target-acquisition and reconnaissance capability. Additionally, says FLIR, the Black Hornet 3 is able to be integrated into the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK), used by military organisations to provide battlefield networks and distribute information.

“We are excited to bring this advanced Black Hornet 3 to our warfighters and first responders,” said James Cannon, President and CEO of FLIR. “With longer range and indoor flight capabilities, the latest generation Black Hornet provides full surveillance coverage continuity to the mission. The Black Hornet 3 is representative of FLIR’s new focus on providing full-solution technology, and we look forward to playing a role in helping modernise our military customers.”
